Porcelain veneers: what are the benefits? | Dr. Stephen Hoard, DDS

There are many cosmetic dentistry treatment options, and porcelain veneers have become one of the most popular choices!
Dr. Stephen Hoard, DDS, offers dental veneers in his New Bern dental office, including porcelain veneers.
Porcelain veneers can be used to correct cosmetic irregularities in the appearance of a patient’ smile as well as to correct a number of dental problems: crooked teeth, gaps between teeth, chipped or broken teeth and stain or discolored teeth.
Of all the dental veneers, porcelain veneers offer patients the most natural looking and long lasting results. Porcelain veneers are made from a translucent shell of porcelain that will reflect light much like a natural tooth, allowing the veneers to blend seamlessly with a patient’s smile. Porcelain veneers are highly stain resistant and durable: with proper oral health care and regular visits to Dr. Hoard in New Bern for preventive care and exams they can last a lifetime.
Porcelain veneers are permanent, requiring a minor amount of tooth preparation before placing. They will require a couple of visits to complete, with impressions taken at the first visit which will be used by a dental lab to create the custom fit and colored veneers. Dr. Hoard will place temporary veneers between visits so that patients can resume their normal daily routines, and will place the final restorations approximately 2 weeks after the initial visit.
As an alternative, Dr. Hoard also offers cosmetic tooth bonding, also known as composite resin veneers to his New Bern, NC area dental patients. This type of dental veneer requires little to no tooth preparation and is not a “lifetime” solution. Composite resin veneers are sculpted to the tooth and when appropriate can provide patients with a more economical and expedient option.
For patients who need or desire dental veneers, Dr. Hoard will perform a thorough evaluation of oral health as well as discuss their cosmetic and budget goals. Dr. Hoard will take all of these factors into consideration before creating a customized treatment plan.
