Dental Crowns An Overview
Whether you need to replace an existing cap or have a tooth that needs a crown, New Bern, NC dentist Dr. Stephen Hoard can create a custom dental crown that looks and feels like a natural tooth. Dr. Hoard uses a variety of materials including porcelain for a highly aesthetic, natural looking restoration. Dental crowns are a restorative dentistry procedure we offer to New Bern, NC.
A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cover, or cap, placed over a tooth that is decayed, cracked or damaged. Tooth caps are used when a filling is an insufficient restoration. Dr. Hoard also uses dental crowns in cosmetic dentistry treatments to improve appearance of teeth that are misshapen, misaligned or discolored.
Dental Crowns What to Expect
Initial Visit – Your first visit with Dr. Hoard will include a thorough examination of the teeth, gums, jaw joints and other support structures. Using diagnostic x-rays, molds and impressions, Dr. Hoard will look for hidden problems that could be impacting the look and health of your smile. Dr. Hoard will inform you on the various options you have for dental crowns and help you make the best choice.
Tooth Preparation – Once the treatment plan is finalized, Dr. Hoard will remove a small amount of the natural tooth structure to allow the dental crown to fit over your tooth comfortably and securely. A temporary tooth cap will be placed over the tooth while the final restoration is being fabricated at the dental laboratory.
Final Restoration – In about 2 to 3 weeks, you will return to our New Bern dentist office for the delivery appointment. Dr. Hoard will cement the tooth crown in place for a stable and permanent fit.
