Meet J. Stephen Hoard, DDS: Your Dentist in New Bern, NC
Your overall health and well-being drive Dr. Hoard’s passion for dentistry. His personal goal is to help every one of his patients enjoy disease-free oral health, with smiles that look beautiful and feel great.
Patient care runs deep and started at home for Steve. His father, who is also a dentist in Steve’s hometown of Tarboro, NC, where Steve practiced for three years before relocating to New Bern, NC, in 1991 to open a private practice, influenced Steve’s compassion for others. His professional training started at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and continued with the Dawson Academy, where he has been a faculty member since 2004. There, he was recognized in 2019 as a “Steve Miller Teaching Assistant of the Year” for his contributions to the advanced study of dentistry for other practicing dentists.
Steve continues his pursuit of dental excellence through his involvement as a Seattle Study Club director and membership with the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, North Caroline Dental Society, and the local Craven-Pamlico-Jones Dental Society.
Steve married his lovely wife Tina in 1991 and has 2 daughters: Nicole, who makes 3 dentists in the family, and Lake, who works for the Dallas Cowboys. He enjoys family time on the beach, boating, golfing, and life in general. And he still makes time for the community as a member of the Rotary International and Garber Methodist Church.

From J. Stephen Hoard:
“When it comes to your oral health and the smile you’ve always wanted, there are many options available. I know it can be difficult to make the right decision about your teeth. With so much confusion about the “best treatment”, it is my goal to provide sound clinical advice that you can use to improve your oral health and give you a smile that is easy to maintain, comfortable, and lasts a long time.”
In Dr. Hoard’s spare time, he enjoys boating, golfing, and spending time with his wife, Tina, and his two daughters, Lake and Nicole.
